Hello, I am hoping to gain some information about an antique powder flask. It depicts the American eagle along with the initials J.J. On both sides. I have been researching the topic of antique powder flasks and their use throughout the U.S.’ history, but have been unable to find another example. I’m curious as to what the J.J. stands for as well as the age of the piece. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. 23099B0E-2A79-4585-B47A-FB058DDD36E3.jpeg 25767390-082B-4922-BA45-645EBB250D28.jpeg ADB9D64E-41E2-49EA-8B6A-6F782C83440A.jpeg DCE3BF97-23FF-430E-9811-DD6F544822AF.jpeg 9B19C4E4-60BB-4E09-90C6-AD9B31B5E223.jpeg ABB98175-2A62-4FBD-9366-7C109C7E2616.jpeg 14F7E873-BD9B-4EDF-821E-3309268CC2D5.jpeg 6A094858-1915-46E8-8841-BDCE6FB9ABAA.jpeg

My 1st thought is a presentation flask
    my 2nd is a reproduction..
my 3rd is , why is this shot of yours on google...but not shown here.......... & with a strange title......... " 19th Century United States Black Powder Flask American Eagle Civil War Era"
my 4th is that with all the potmarks and flaws , yours looks like a casting...of poor quality.....

Let's see what others have to say..........;):rolleyes:

It looks as if the new member might have tried selling it as such on eBay, then ended the listing when it turned out not to be what he thought(?)

    Either way, welcome A-aron!

    Welcome A-aron.
Sorry to say, but maybe this is a repro?
We used to see a lot of American Civil War repro flasks here in Europe in the 1970s and 80s. Those were made in Greece, which had the main copper and brass repro/fake industry at the time.

Is the nozzle/powder dispenser functional. Repros often did not bother with this as they were not expected to be used.

Agree with everything that's been said. Looks like a low-quality casting with no real wear.

Speaking from minus zero infor about powder flasks of any kind, it looks not very useful in the field -- to me. I would think that the less weight a soldier had to carry, the better; and that one is considerably glocked up.

Too many casting flaws to be anything anyone expected to sell during 19th C.

Obviously JJ = Judge Judy, a 20/21C. Tv personality.
