Would that be a glass serving tray that slides into it?? @verybrad?

 

I think it may have had a glass top. If so (wait for Brad etc), you could easily get a replacement.

 

Yes! Nicely framed, 15 by 18 inches. Slides in and out by pulling on the knob on front of tray.

 

Circa 1950. No discernable style other than traditional. Something is odd about the placement of the legs and how they are attached. May not be original to the top.

I wonder if it may have 'center-based splay legs' before and the placement of these legs make it more stable......there was obviously something before removed from the center underneath!!!! JUST a THOUGHT!!!

 

Thanks! In the picture of the underside, you can see there is no remnant of a center based leg placement. It's just a smooth untouched/no repair evidence area. Also the glass tray can be seen under there.

 

Looks like some kind of marriage of convenience. Stand might have been part of a bedside table or piano stool before. Or maybe it was original to the tray top but reconfigured at some point.
