Not all of them, I have seen them like this as well. But there are of course differences in patina, etc.

This desk presents a good example of why an in person examination is required to authenticate old furniture, photographs are nice and can give one a good idea but confirmation? NEVER!
Construction details that are easy to see in person for some reason the camera simply does not pick up and, with old furniture it's ALL about construction details.

Yes indeed....but we do live in a world of online photo's.....& after a while one can get pretty good at identifying what one sees ....at least with a high degree of confidence......if not certainty !

Welcome to the Forum, Davek64! :) What a beautiful desk. Have you looked thoroughly for a maker? Many times it’s inside a drawer.

Yes, you can be pretty sure however, if dropping any kind of serious money on a piece, an in person exam is required, photo's simply won't do.
Not only do they make this desk by hand today but, in 1876, the centennial of american independence, they made them by hand then too & those centennial pieces are antique now as well, just not period.

So lucky I didnt spend serious money. Just was looking for information as I could find none on my own. At least now I have some references so I can continue my research on my own.

it would have been nice to see the construction of a drawer.

Doing your own research is fine....& we laud you for that....but before you do....show us everything you can , so we all get a kick at the can first.
    The more we know......the more you'll know !!! :):):):):);)
