There are several websites and pages devoted to alerting the public to fake antiquities and fakes dealers.
Antiquities are not regular antiques, but items from ancient history, like Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, Bactria, Indus Valley, etc.

It's great that there's people out there putting their time into fighting the good fight and shaming such sellers

They obviously know what they are talking about, and I bet seeing such fakery exist must make their blood boil

 

It just makes me sad that people will buy from these sellers in good faith. Unfortunately, good faith doesn't work in some fields, and antiquities especially is a minefield.

This also serves as a warning to buyers when sellers use this New York dealer as 'provenance', which I have seen in auctions.

Granted, you must have a vivid imagination to be an archeologist. The theory pioneers are always subject to ridicule, but that's how we get a shift in paradigms. I remember when the first archeologists remarked on the celestial alignments of ancient structures... now it is taken for granted in most pre-historic sites...

 

True. And you have to start somewhere. As long as that start isn't set in stone (so to speak ).

So true, so true! During my schooling if we couldn’t determine an excavated object’s use we’d opine that it was “of ceremonial significance”.

 

So you'd have Ceremonial Cat Toys in addition to the thuribles and Torah yods?
