Hepplewhite slant lid desk on frame. Looking at inlay, probably american, maybe english though, looks period, if you show pics of drawer construction could say a bit more.

I'd go English, on the shell and hardware...

One of ours. First thought is Edwardian in the Georgian manner, but I'd like more images. We'd call it a lady's writing desk.

Could be english, could be period as well, could be a hand made repro, that's a lot of "coulds" in there. It appears to be well made. It's called a desk on frame here.

They are still making these here in the states, some hand made just like in the old days. Here are 2 from Doucette and Wolfe, if you have to ask, you can't afford it

    Beautiful desk, and welcome, Davek64.
Just to help with identification, are you in the US, UK, or somewhere else?

Yeah, agrees, would be very helpful & cut down on speculative posts a bunch if folks would at least ID the continent they are located and/or where they got the piece.

Me to! I am in charlotte, where did you get the desk? or you are thinking of buying from dealer/auction?
Any info provided is very important as far as old furniture is concerned in helping determine origin of piece, age, etc.

I bought it at an auction in wake forest. the only thing he said was early 19th century and that at some point it had been French polished.

It is French polished, French polishing is Shellac and friction, do you know what species the secondary wood on the drawer is?

are you sure it's not an Italian copy ? I've seen those shell "marquetries" from late 70s onwards.

The Italian copies tend to be far more florid and OTT.
