Hello guys,so i have this chinese deities statue,it's Guan Yin or Goddes Of Mercy or Avalokitesvara,i think this is made from wax, since wax was known to be use as purifier in religious purpose. This statue have kind of sun symbol in the behind, and also i think unreadable mark in the base,so can anyone give me more information about the statue, the age or maybe the value, since i've already search in the google but found nothing, and this kind of statue usually use in temple or religious purpose only, any helps will be appreciated, thanks!

She radiates serenity, but I'm afraid she looks like cast resin to me. The photo of the bottom is the clue.

hmm..do you know how to test if its a wax or just waxy film?hmm also this statue feels heavier than its size, the size is about 30cm or 12",if it was made from resin i think it will feels lighter since resin is not kind of high density,i have resin statue so i know how it feels :bookworm::bookworm::bookworm:

Resin can be very heavy, I’ve done quite a lot of casting and have put iron filings in the mix, even rocks in the middle of the casting. The pin holes on the edge give it away as resin but it may well have a wax outer as Komokwa said.

Well wax normally melts if exposed to heat but you wouldn’t want to damage your statue, I don’t know what else you could do.

If it is wax you should be able to scratch it with your fingernail on the bottom of the piece.
