it has Corbin locks. the dovetails appears hand cut…?
There is no plywood. Appears to be all walnut. The only mark I found, was a Roman numeral 2 stamped on one of the support pieces for the center drawer.
The drawer stops are dowels. The dowels all appear to be spiral cut.

Machine cut dovetails were perfectly cut. Your ones indicate it was built prior to 1890.

You may find the name of the manufacturer underneath. If you don't want to turn the whole thing over to look under, take a drawer out and check the bottom. Newer roll top desks made to look old typically have no manufacturer marks.

3B647B13-724F-4FCB-80F2-68D5AD5E7320.jpeg It certainly seems old by the construction. I found one paper label under the roll top desk top but it is very worn off and illegible. Looks even like maybe old newspaper. I can’t find any other markings on it. The screws are all flathead brass that is black. All other joints are rabbet dado.
ive looked all over. I did find the “hidden drawers”

Could you photograph the Corbin locks please?

Hey I'm not an expert. I'm just an average gal trying to help and learning how to determine the age of 'antiques' myself.

I’m no expert. I just found the desk for 300 bucks and grabbed it. Then I was like. I wonder what this is. Lol
Antique furniture is not my area of expertise whatsoever

Handsome tambour/rolltop desk ca. 1890-1900. Quality walnut, nice stylized bin pulls. Replacement lock. You got a fair, even good price; in the 1990s that would have been upwards of $1K. It's a great time to buy quality antique furniture! :)

Nothing more to add. Really nice condition and think you did well for the money.

Do y’all know if there is any way I can tell the maker by any other means than a tag?
I can’t find anything on it besides that Roman numeral. I’ve looked high and low. All I found was an old napkin. Lol

Probably no way to determine the maker without a label of some kind. There were dozens, even hundreds of manufacturers across the country at that time, and very few of them used labels of stamps, nor were most of them distinctive enough stylistically to make a call on the maker just based on appearance alone.

Just curious, but a couple of photos show the wings (?) with arrows. One points to what looks like a brass inlay. The other points to a slat which may be adjustable (?).
What is the purpose of these two items?
