What is it? Sewing tool? Knife rest?

I need help figuring out what this is.
My first thought was maybe it's a knife rest.
Later thought maybe a sewing tool of some sort.
    Approx. 3-3/4 inches long.
I assume the end caps are sterling but no hallmarks found. They are fixed in place- don't come off.
The opaque butterscotch colored bar appears to be a plastic-like Bakelite or celluloid.
    Back is identical to front.

It isn't like any sewing tool I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot.

Maybe an orchid? One of the tip ends sticks out a little further than the other. Sure that doesn’t pop open? Toothpick length?

    What a weird object!!

    Never seen anything like it.

I will say this much: I have seen sterling silver chopstick-rests.

They don't look like this. They need a hollow or concavity in the center, to stop the sticks from rolling around. This doesn't really have that.

Did you check the left end tip for removal? It sticks out further than the other end as I said.

It looks like a lotus to me. Sort of has a Georg Jensen look.

I have tried to pry off ends (carefully), but they won't budge. Unless they are really stuck.

There is nothing there that can be popped open. The silver is very snug, almost looks crimped in place and not intended to be removed but I could be wrong.
