There just hasn't been much interesting at sales lately around here. This week I actually paid for pure rust just to get something.

Cairngorm, with some nice agate bits round it. I was quite pleased. ;)

Cairngorm is smoky quartz, the op's stone looks like glass. The piece is hand engraved with wriggle engraving and cut lines.

It's definitely Cairngorm not glass, I've a lot of it. Reads higher on a tester. The stones used in Scottish hardstone are clear, rather than the smokier quartzes.

What is the elongated bubble at the 7 o'clock position near the prong?

There are no bubbles anywhere in the stone - and yes, it's been under a loupe. I think you're seeing reflections from the background. Google on Scottish hardstone Victorian Cairngorm, you'll see plenty similar.

That one's old too; it's been repaired, but it's a Victorian repair! It may even be a silver brooch repaired with gold, from the looks of it. Somebody's Grandma loved that pin and got a repair that may have cost more than the pin did. I'd have bought it for that reason alone.
