I grandaughters love the borrowers. I think the best children's movies are British. i have the books as well. I have borrowers here as well. They like to hide things in plain sight!

You should get it tested. For the moment I think the brooch is plated.
The German hallmarking system is a bit peculiar. For one hallmarking is not mandatory, so many pieces, esp. older ones, are not marked at all. Further the law only allows for millessimal fineness. There are no specific fineness standards by law, the producer is liable for the fineness that is marked on a piece. Theoretically any fineness is possible, however there are unofficial standards of 333 (8kt), 585 (14kt) and 750 (18kt), sometimes you can find 900 (21,6kt).

That reminds me of "Not Me" and "Ida Know" the imaginary critters that did all these terrible things.

I guess I will have to wait to find a jeweler for testing (and other stuff). Mine retired and some around here have done the same or closed during pandemic and not reopened.:sorry: Leaving the "chain" jewelers at the malls who only want to sell and nothing else.

OK--I feel totally stupid (or blind)..the mark is 14kt RoWi not Roti.
Researched and it is Rowi Rodi & Wienenberger . Seems they did do lots of quality plated, and sterling..but I did find a 14kt pin listed on Ebay Germany so guess they did do 14kt. (listing in German..so no big help!)
