Do you think 49 is the year? Also, wonder if the signature is of the artist or the owner?

Some calls similar glazes 'ancient sands'.
I am trying to find a detailed bio on the artist. There is Tony Evans who was a mechanical engeneering professor but not sure if that is him.

 

There are hundreds of Tony Evans.

 

To me the style, glaze, application of the signature, signature itself and the numbering point to only one Tony Evans.

 

I was confused? You said a Tony Evans was a mechanical engeneering professor ? You didn't post a link to how you came to this conclusion the he was in fact the artist?

 

That same professor was a vice president of the American ceramic society. Then, you have Tony Evans who found Evans Ceramics. Both from California. So, I guess it is the same person.

Another Tony Evans piece

 

Did you ever figure out which "Tony Evans" did the plate?

 

Have not researched more since then but I think the owner of the ceramic studio and the professor were the same person.
By the way, the plate was purchased by a buyer from China some time ago.
