Would love some help with these clubs if anyone has any ideas. I've spent hours searching but haven't come up with much at all.. They were bought at a general auction with no info attached to them other than "tribal clubs".

The pattern on the first looks similar to objects i've seen attributed to the Chokwe but i've never seen a club like this one.

The second has the shape of a Fijian "gunstock" club but again I haven't seen any like this.

    Thanks a lot!

    Calum

It doesn't look like a fighting club it looks like a walking aid/staff.

The holes are for the users fingers. No one would make so much carving on a weapon.

My post above was not aimed at you, Alesia. I'm sorry you thought it was.

Thanks again all. They're both around 60cm long so I think short for walking sticks.

    Bit of a mystery then!

The shapes are not right for walking sticks either. They look like clubs to me, as you said.

Neither of them are something I have seen before, and after perusing over 1500 images of clubs from Africa and the Pacific in the collection of the American Museum of Natural History, I have not found any similar enough to be useful in identification.

Vikingsword is a good site (I am a 'lurking' member there), maybe someone will come along later, either here or there. Sometimes mysteries are solved years later.
