Hi I picked this primitive chair at an estate sale at a discounted price but need help identifying approximately age...said 1700's, looks hand hewn and some good back country carpentry. Thanks! Screenshots_2021-08-14-18-34-28.png

    Hi Sean,

This chair might be similar to your chair. Has there been any work done on your chair. The less restoration the better.

A more everyday take on the Thames Valley Windsor, a painted version with elm seat and walnut bow and solid splat. It fetched £550 at Christie’s South Kensington in September 2010. windsor05.jpg

It's not a Windsor, it looks more to me like a "Welsh Stick Chair", primitive chairs made in Wales since the 13th century built from.....STICKS!:hilarious: gathered in the hedgerows.
A brief description of this chair history by Chris Williams, a chair maker who lives & works in rural West Wales.

You are brilliant James, I knew the legs were right I have seen them on english Windsor chairs, but was unsure about the framless back, and also was concerned the wood was origional.

Nonsense, you knew what it was all along! right on the tip of your tongue!:p
There has been increased interest in these chairs recently in America, an interesting story/history, no 2 ever built alike.
