Tried to put this into a Hebrew keyboard so I could translate, but my Hebrew is not good enough (who am I kidding?, it's nonexistent) to be able to sort out the marks in the middle into the proper letters. Can anyone help? @komokwa ?

I can't do it either. I'm still trying. Do you know that Hebrew words read right to left? and they only had one vowel in their written alphabet.....A

    what d'ya mean ....had ?

    and .../u r in error..././

You probably also noticed that the Hebrew script includes little symbols under, over and inside the letters. These are called diacritics, or נִיקוּד nikud. They represent the five vowelsounds in Hebrew: a, e, i, o, and u, and they are pronounced after the consonant that they're written above or below.

You mean on the right it says Jerusalem, no? I wasn't sure if that was a yod at the beginning & didn't see a shin in the middle, but can see now that it probably is. The bottoms of some the letters are cut off. Thank you, kind sir.

I knew they were letters, but to me they were just marks. I couldn't figure out which ones went with which. I knew someone with a degree of facility would know what made sense.

This is the front of the piece:

What are presumably the artisan's initials are at about 4 o'clock; the name of the subject is hidden in the scrollwork at 7 o'clock. Strangely, I believe it says Rachel, when the figure is carrying a water vessel on her shoulder, which is usually Rebekah. Rachel is depicted with sheep & a shepherd's crook.

@komokwa Sorry to bother you again. Am I misreading it?

I need to go to bed now, almost 1AM. If a thank you is slow in coming, you'll know why. Zzzzzzz. :)
