  1. Hi there!

I’m interested in purchasing this dresser for 150$. I’m hoping to get some info about it. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous but don’t know much else. Any input would be sooo appreciated! Thanks so much :)

Bernadette, I've taken the liberty of reposting your photograph as Full Image. You'll want to make sure and do that next time so it's easier for everyone to see your item.

    Yeeeeeeeeeeeeees! Get it.
It looks at least Victorian and would be quite valuable.

I think it looks more 1920s,mass produced type just a little bit fancier. $150 is way too much in my opinion. But wait for others to chime in.

  7. I seem to have an affinity for the 1920’s mass produced look lol!! I look at it tomorrow. If the drawers work I’ll most likely purchase it

Depends on what the market is in your area, but the prices for 'brown' furniture is way down and here in Wisconsin $150 would be a wildly optimistic price for the seller to be expecting.

On the one hand, that's a whack for a piece of 1920s furniture. On the other, it's such a distinctive piece that if you love it and want to use it, why not? It's cheaper than the flat-pack garbage they sell now, and better quality.

Until Victorian times shellac was the only clear finish available in furniture manufacture. Lacquer and varnish were not developed until the mid 1800s.

If you were going to mass produce such decorative furniture, why wouldn't you pile the lacquer on?

Genuine antique wooden furniture was hand carved. If it was machine made, you'd be able to draw a verticle line down the centre and match each decorotive element perfectly with it's partner.

I'm a bit concerned with the drawer pulls on the second-bottom drawer. They are replacements. If you intend to buy it, do it up and sell it as a genuine piece, make sure the drawer pulls match.

Just in terms of the price. Are you thinking of buying it and then keeping if for yourself? Not reselling?

The top part doesn't match the bottom part.

I agree. If you love it and want to buy to keep and use it. Then buy it,but try making a reasonable offer on it first. It’s very true what @evelyb30 says about the quality versus some modern day crap.

I'm with the others, not Victorian. But if you love it and you think it is worth the money to you, by all means buy it. That way you will enjoy it every time you see it.:)
Off topic, wisc, I love your little hedgehog friend.
