Mid century? Japanese? Candle holder carriage

    I picked this up at a local thrift shop. Thought it was a pretty cool candle holder. It has a wooden handle with inserts around it. You raise one if the inserts to put the candle in it. Any idea of origin? Thought it could be japanese but not sure. Thank you for any info!
