Vintage Austrian Crystal Rhinestone Pin

    This pin, which was my mother's, is marked "Made in Austria" on the back. She definitely had in the 1960s but I don't know if it could be earlier? When did these types of pins first emerge?

    The metal base is black. Is there a special term in the jewelry world to descibe that? I assume there's no way to know the maker since it's not identified?

    I can see in the photos I need to get rid of dust on the pin. Would it be safe to use alcohol on a Q-tip to clean it, or could that have a negative effect on the metal?

    Also, the pin is about 1-1/2" in diameter.

    Maybe computer keyboard canned air? But wait to see if anyone suggests it may not be good for some reason. I don’t see any dust. :)

    Nope, not tarnished. The black is solid and looks like enamel.
