    I tried to read the mark just now, but it's a blurry mess. The knives immediately jumped out as stainless with a sterling handle and saw a lot of matching pieces in the box. Plated pieces don't generally have that sort of join line, if they have one at all. The swervey pattern looks like stainless. The set is mismatched, always a good sign that something's up, but in this case there wasn't much doubt.

    It swerves around visually, kind of like riding a switchback.

    Ah - the other pattern in the box, with 4 knives in the lid. Got it. I agree.
