Odd Silverplate Marking

    DSC00437.JPG DSC00441.JPG Anyone have any idea what this mark is? The items are used silver plate but no luck in a broad search. On each of the 22 pieces, it says 1 M with no other marks.

    Hm. What country were these found in?

    You sure it says 1M on all? The top one in your posted picture looks like 2W to me. (Not that that gives me any ideas, but still.)

    It does say 1 M on the pieces. Maybe it could also be a letter but under a magnifier it looks like a '1'. Found at an Ohio Goodwill.

    Well, either way, these markings have no "meaning" that I know of. Could have meant something to the maker, but there's no way to know what. If related to plating thickness, the common usage was measurement in "pennyweights" which was usually expressed in "dwt."

    This very plain, single piece form was made by many makers and was not patented.
