Featured Chinese prunus jar lamp

Hi folks

Bought this at a flea market yesterday

I've had a quite a few late 19c prunus jars in the past, but this one seems alot better quality, good size as well

Even with the wooden base on you can feel the weightiness of it

Thought there were some promising signs on it as well

Obviously it's gonna have drilled holes in, and its secured very tightly, don't want to damage anything

Would love to see the base though for closer inspection

Any thoughts appreciated

I tend to buy these if they are in the Charity shops, are heavy in weight with frit blemishes, sometimes with the blue ring/s on the base or character marks. I’ve got about 5/6 of them as jars not lamps. The newer ones are lighter in weight, thin and sort of glassy and I don’t see as many of them now.
Yours looks good to me as late 19th but I’m sure someone here will know more than me. They do make a nice lamp base!

 

Thanks houseful, yeah I've still got 2 or 3 knocking about as well, they always sell.

Supposedly they are hard to age, but weight is the best indication of age

Gonna have to get the base off to have a looky look

 

Weight? Ok. Thanks for that. I got two the other day. Was also not sure regarding age. But yours automatically just looks older to
me.

 

Yeah it's that top rim that makes me think Maybe a bit older, none of the other ones I have had have had that

Most have the two double kangxi rings, but are not of that period but late 19th

I've also come across fairly recent ones that are pretty easy to distinguish

Just went to have another look at the ones I got at a house sale. (Had them packed away)But now it’s clear to me that they are fairly new. They certainly don’t have the look and ‘feel’ as your one. They also seem light to me now. I still find them pretty (but that’s about it) Also happy that I got them cheap.

I reckon you'll do alright with those, nice decorative things.

Hard to tell age from photos, don't know much about these enamelled types, but think they are referred to as Macau Enameled
