    Hi everyone

Hope you are doing great. I am going to need your kindly help again to identify the painter. I got this 23x28.5 cm landscape painting as a gift. I assume that the artist painted Swiss landscape, and it was framed by papeterie in St.Moritz. I just curious about the name of the painter. For me it seem like a three alphabets, the first one is not very clear, following with something RB. Please if you have any idea about the artist or a date of this painting. I would be very appreciate. Thank you so much. Have a lovely day.

Please post a photograph of the back including frame along with an in focus, close-up photograph of the label, sticker or stamp of the papeterie.

Thank you so much. (And, next time, would you be kind enough to ensure your close-up photographs are in focus? That would be helpful.)

So if work contemporary to frame, we're looking for an artist working in the 1960s or 1970s. (You can confirm that by doing some internet research on Swiss telephone numbers.) Family business and Hugh Wetzel still around; you could always ask.

The papeterie doesn't seem to exist anymore but the family also had a printing press which seems to still exist in some form. Hugh Wetzel, who worked there, now heads the Saint Moritz Organizing Committee. And you can also ask the tourist board. The challenge, of course, is that St. Mortiz is a tourist destination so your artist could be from anywhere. I always suggest as a first step just opening up the back of a work. There may be information on the canvas' reverse.

Absolutely agreed. I think it would be quite a challenge to find some painter in the touristic town like St.Moritz especially if he or her is not well-known artist in the area. Opening the back is not a bad idea, it does not seem very complicate for this one. Thanks

Just do it carefully. The label adds provenance so important that saved intact. The paper backing can always be replaced if need be.

The front of my painting with initial PRB, I just found out that it is pretty close to the painter of this one. Peter Robert Berry, he is swiss.

Both worked in impasto. Very possible. Local artist too. There's a museum. Your next step, I'd think.

What a nice gift, by way. Berry seems to have painted mostly mountain scenes. Yours has a more domestic setting. Berry died in 1942 so if his a late work (which might explain why not a mountain scene.) And date on back would be 35. Does that look right to your eye?

Will definitely let you all know how it goes. The date seem very difficult to make it out. If it is him, yes it might be 35. And yes it probably a Swiss chalet in the mountain. It looks different from what he painted. I saw he paint also a vase of flower so maybe he have tried different style, I guessed lol.

A more accessible location for an older man. He was certainly highly influenced by the Impressionists. The museum sure to be interested.
