I'm very fond of ranunculus and viburnums. I grow white viburnum, haven't done ranunculus for a while.

I have a "Dawn: viburnum in front of the house, but its blooms are not like the "snowballs" on the bowl. Blooms late fall to early spring and is very fragrant! Around here that kind of ball shape is always hydrangea.

Same here. Mine are deep blue - oak trees make the soil alkaline.

"panicle" --another new one for me.

I worked at a garden center for years, but we sold large volumes of a small number of plants... i.e. not much variety. I guess a lot of things are like that.

There's garden centres and garden centres. ;)

I do buy some common plants, but I love specialist places.

As to hydrangeas, the blue is down to acid soil, not alkali. You can buy bluing solution, which is basically copper sulphate, or bury old coppers in the soil.

Oaks like a slightly acid soil. PLant waste decomposition doesn't have over much effect on pH levels, but if anything, it would slightly acidify. Very marginal though.

Alkali soil is generally the result of underlying chalk deposits or similar inorganic calcium based minerals. There's a myth that clay soils like my London clay are alkali, but they're not, they're acidic, which is why I have rampaging azaleas. First thing I say to anyone with a new garden is test the pH.

I could bore you to bits with the chemical reactions now. ;)

Outdoor antique show had just a few goodies....
    Earrings were $4

Sailboat, sterling, was $10, gift for a friend

I thought $35 for the 9k ring was a steal

And....paid dearly for this sterling magnifying glass, but it was love at first sight.

I love hydrangeas. My maternal grandmother had a porch surrounded by blue ones.

Thanks. I ordered a 32" stainless steel chain for it...I am hoping to find a vintage longer sterling chain for it. I have to visit my silver scrappers in PA before the summer is over. I could also use a rosary chain, repurposed.

I can understand why you wanted that! Could swear I just found a longish sterling chain, but have no idea where it went. If it went. I'd probably bead myself one or something, but I'm weird.

It has to be some sort of counting stick. Just hope no one counted on it for birth control!

Finally had a chance to take photos of some of the stuff I got from the last auction this past Friday.:happy:

A few piggies. The black one was made by Manuel Felguerez. :smug:

A nice assortment of this & that - cast iron billy goat bottle opener, a turtle pillbox, a jade bear, a couple of Netsukes & I have no clue.

A jade jar on stand & a 1969 Alva Museum Replica paperweight.

2 wood carvings & a piece that I am hoping is not what I think it may be.

Then we have the Chinese metal covered dish. :D:D

This last piece is going to stay with me at least for the foreseeable future. I believe it is Tiger Eye & my photos do not do it justice. The carving is just exquisite. It is 2" by 1 3/8" across & is about 3/8" thick.:happy::happy:

    [IMG] [IMG]

There will be several posts regarding these pieces because I went way out of my comfort zone on this one. :jawdrop::eek::rolleyes::rolleyes::bag::bag::p

I always enjoy the old dime savers with advertising for old time small banks. Neat pieces of ephemera but coin collectors love them too.

@kyratango - It has "1969 AMR" on the side of the top portion. Here is one just like mine.

    @Boland - Thanks!! :happy::happy:

You can check out @Asian Fever's helpful information regarding it on this thread.

    https://www.antiquers.com/threads/p...tions-regarding-a-chinese-pewter-piece.64107/

@Joe2007 - There are a total of 5 of them but unfortunately a couple of them have some damage but they were part of a large lot. I think the black one is the money maker of the group.:happy:

    @janettekay - Thanks!! :happy::happy:

That carving is one of the reasons I bid on the table. She reminded me of the carvings @Any Jewelry has posted on her Bali Art Deco thread. It has "Sarawak Malaysia" written in pencil on the bottom & I am going to try to get a post up later today with more photos. Hopefully, AJ will chime in with her thought regarding the piece.

Unfortunately, some of the stones have some minor damage but the Malachite? one is wonderful. That will be one of the other threads started for help.

As I said, I have strayed way out of my comfort zone on some of the pieces I have bought over the last few weeks but armed with the knowledge I have gained from this forum I felt confident enough to at least give it a try. :p:p

Now all I have to do is get it all listed.:facepalm::facepalm: :hilarious:
