Cost me $1.99 plus tax.


Really like this painting by Edmund Aubrey Hunt, inscribed verso “Freeman Whitmarsh, Plymouth 1900”.
Almost a freebie at a yard sale.

Here's some recent finds:

a lot of 7 knives, including 3 kershaws and 1 case: $5



A Till & Sons bowl with... peonies? $5




... and this wool rug, labeled as hand woven at least, though perhaps not, 9' x 6.5' for only $50! Feeling good about that one!

 

The flowers in the bowl - the one I assume you guessed as peonies are actually cabbage roses, I believe. The foliage around them is definitely more "rose" than peony. The others may be hydrangea.

The two community yard sales this morning had very little. I drove to my flea market and found this Silkstone Barbie for $3. Mattel has discontinued production, and even nude, they fetch $70 to $150.

re: the link. Holy moley! $375 bucks for a 2014 Barbie doll! Plus $21 for insured shipping. I never would have thought such a thing possible.

Believe your rug is a hand made Bokhara. Yours appears to be pretty new so, most likely, from Pakistan. Good buy for $50.00.

Barbie collectors are a serious lot. There are so many modern ones out there worth more than jewelry pieces.

 

Agree hydrangea, not sure they are not one of the peony varieties though. Foliage looks more like peony to me but I’m no flower expert.

1) a Karcag crackle glass vase- (not terribly exciting,but still nice)
2) Old painting of a Cape Dutch homestead- paid equivalent of $6 at a charity shop 2 days ago. Still trying to figure out the signature. In truth I like the frame more than the painting itself.
3) Small stone vase. Looks like a little memorial shape vase to me (like the mass produced ones you can get at Walmart)What I liked is the engraving. Looks like a old chinese wise man. Paid just over $1. Keep well

 

Found this lovely lady (I think). Have admired these ancestor portraits before and was excited to find one at small-town thrift store. This one is about 18x24” which is much smaller than the ones I usually see online. Are these reproduced for tourists in small sizes? Will look nice on our wall!

 

Ranunculus for the "cabbage rose". The other flower is a pink viburnum. Snowball shrub to you.

 

I'm with you on the frame; the painting wouldn't float my boat but the frame looks well made.

 

Yep, Ranunculus that’s a match for the flower and foliage all right. Just had a look, there’s some fabulous colours available even a bright blue!

 

I can't remember the last time I saw ranunculus outside of a book. It just didn't click with my brain.
