Emile Guillemin? Some of his sculpture pairs remind me of these.

...not that these signatures aren’t sometimes faked. Best to say “attributed” if you didn’t get them from a reputable source.

    Yes those are mine.
I thought the price was good. There are no chips. A little patina on the faces.
The woman's hoe is slightly bent but not broken (I will make another seperate post about how to bend that straight)
Still dont know what the letters on the signature are? Even if the signature is fake, they are still old pieces (late Victorian/Edwardian).

I am open to flipping them.

When you say 'not a bad price' what do you mean?
After paying auction fees these cost me $230 Australian Dollars. I am happy with that if I keep them. For two figures in good condition. But I would be interested to gauge whether that was cheap or expensive?

    JMHO.
Emile Guillemin was a rather timid artist with no specifiable personal style. not really belle époque and not yet art nouveau. which explains that his prices are fluctuating in rather big range. either you like it or you don't; many take it as kitsch.
furthermore these round socles cry 1950s.

Really depends on where and how you’d sell... they could realise more through being sold in an upmarket shop setting, but I’d say you paid the upper end of what is expected in most cases. If you knew the location of the originals and the nationality of the peasants (probably French) that’d also help the value a little.
The signature is definitely “Guillemin”, but in a factory setting, say, the signature can be added almost at random to give the figures the appearance of legitimacy. For what it’s worth, I think these are probably copied from something he genuinely produced, though his originals would have had a higher quality finish. Take a look at this Christies auction... it shows you the height of his abilities and even has a little biographical information:

Nonetheless yours are very pretty, nicely executed and have very broad appeal. Overall I think you should be very happy with your purchase :) :) :)

Could you please tell me more about that. I have seen a lot of examples of this spelter with the round socles identified as Victorian or dated at about 1890-1910. They are pretty common. With the little french plaque.
But I dont know much about it, so I (and others) could be wrong.
I have seen other ones online with the timber socle painted to appear to be marble (spelter statues were made for the middle classes) but I am having trouble finding right now. Here is one:

Also these below all have round socles:

Thanks yes I'm happy. When you say I paid at the upper end I'm really not seeing two good condition spelter statues like this anywhere for 208 Australian dollars. Maybe in the UK or somewhere that has a lot more antiques they are more common but here in Australia there just aren't that many.
Unless of course like the other poster was saying they are 1950s in which case maybe a couple of hundred bucks is about as good as It gets.
Do you have some similar examples that you could link to that have sold for cheaper?

what do you think happened from 1939 to 1945 ?
furthermore the metal labels are even more post-whatever...

Out of all of the examples that I have found which look exactly like these, you are the only one that is suggesting these are post-war. Is this just a widespread lie/misunderstanding about these pieces?
See this one for example with a similar base they always seem to be claimed to be between 1890 to 1920.

    Do you have further information?
I'm genuinely interested in finding out and I'm not sensitive about it.

He had a son who lived in the time period more related to these pieces which was the very early 20th century. Louis Guillemin. Who has a signature that is much closer to the one on mine. And to which very similar style and age pieces are "attributed"
