I have been sent an old pedometer and was wondering if anyone can help me with finding it online and any idea how much it is worth.

Sorry @Legofan , most people won't click on external links from new members. You should post your photos directly here. Photos must be under 1MB.

As far as 'worth' goes, we don't normally quote prices (too many variables), but we try to direct you to listings we might find to give you an idea on prices.

they were made by Kasper & Richter and distributed by Eschenbach to opticians with the rest of their products. after Eschenbach
the mechanical "stepcounters" are still in their program.
the paper seems to be from the 70s.

it was in military use for a long time, certainly since WWI when the big battlefield maps were still rather unprecise. also used for nightattacks.

Do you have any idea why opticians would want to sell pedometers?

Good question. That’s odd.. To help promote general health and wellness.. (Or to count the steps till you need those glasses)

My father was presented with a pedometer for his birthday some time in the late 1950s. He was an avid sportsman and liked walking, wanted to know how many steps he took in an average 3-5 km walk. The pedometer I bought for saved-up babysitting monies cost 15 Swedish Crowns I recall, at a dime store, equivalent to Woolworth's. My babysitting monies in those days was about that for 3 hours, 5 Crowns per hour. The pedometer worked fine actually, dad liked it a lot. The rate of exchange in those days was 5 SEK to 1 US $. That rate was in effect for many years, up to the time when the U.S. went off the gold standard.
