basket front.jpg basket top down.jpg inside basket.jpg basket lid side.jpg basket interior bottom.jpg Hello - This was purchased through an auction with several other unremarkable baskets. Fairly good shape with one large and two small holes on bottom. Any information about it would be very helpful. Thank you!

Your basket is Chinese. I have seen alot of these imported within the last 10 years or so. It is a distinctive style of construction, but I have not been able to find much good information about the materials and their original use. It appears to be some sort of rush or reed used in the body of the basket.

It's a traditional style of split bamboo work basket, from Shanxi province, in China.
