Oh ! i thought you were talking about the painting! I know,I still cant believe it was just sitting there.

 

I found a gold stick pin on Thursday, just sitting in a Victorian stick pin box. I wanted the box and the pin came with! The box will get something else in it so I can hand it to a friend. The jewelry store was in Utica and it's a running gag.

 

Have to resize the good one, but these are from today. Hit something resembling paydirt a the very end. The small shell pin is 10k - so marked and I tested it. The three coordinating rosaries aren't celluloid or bakelite. More like horn and??? The bitty one is glass seed beads and gold-filled. The Arabic is apparently a Lebanese Catholic house blessing. The green pin is malachite and random metal; it fell apart almost in my hands. The worry beads are nothing to worry about.

The painting was the only thing from that 'estate sale" worth mentioning. Cost two or three dollars. The art isn't any great shakes but it has a legible signature and a vintage date. Hand-stretched canvas too.

 

This sole photo from a Craigslist estate sale got me to take a 40 minute drive this morning. I got there first and was very pleased to pay $20 for that golden colored box. What do you think it contains?

It looks like an old candy or tea box, but I'd be hoping for something less perishable. Perhaps a lot less perishable. It doesn't look big enough for sterling flatware, but I'd be perfectly happy with a tangle of sterling and gold jewelry.

 

Here are some recent finds for me: an undecorated black pot from Santa Clara that has what I think is a Fred Harvey shop sticker on the bottom and I'm guessing is 1940's, another black one from Santo Domingo Pueblo, a Hopi pot for $12, a silver bracelet for $20, and the big leather piece is by Steven C Evans-- I was surprised to find a NWCoast piece on leather...?

 

I showed the table lot I got at last night's auction in another thread but I was researching some of the stuff tonight & was thrilled to find out the details about the parrot lamp in the back right-hand corner.



It was made by Fulper Pottery perfume lamp & according to what I can find it is c.1925.

The following illustrates just what the box is. He's a bit off in its dating. It was made between 1924 and 1933, as that's when the Bing Werke (BW) logo style was used.

That reddish rosary is very interesting....

 

Found these 2 watercolour drawings at our local weekend second hand market. Paid the equivalent of just under $3 for the pair. I suppose duck hunting not going to plan. They make me smile.Cartoon like and just something different.

 

So cool!!!

 

A couple of small things. Flea market find, appears to be silverplated, I cleaned the two links on either side of the clasp, $2, larger size, too.
The cultured pearl and hematite earrings are set in sterling, comfortable clips, $3.

These larger cultured silver pearls are set in a silvertone base metal, screwbacks, $1.

 

That mini record player has got to be the coolest thing ever !

 

These toy phonographs do not all play as well as the one in the video. Most have had a very hard life. There are other well constructed miniature phonographs that perform much better.
I have a few examples of these small machines.

You can google Excelda phonograph and Colibri phonograph. These are called cameraphones, because they resemble Kodak cameras of the time.

 

This made me remember one that the folks here helped me ID since it was not marked. It amazed me that these would be considered a toy. Mine was already put together so it amazes me more that a child would be allowed to assemble such a thing & that yours still had all of its parts!!

Your Baby phonograph was a nice one.
The one I picked-up has an incomplete motor. That's ok since it was bought to complete one I have sitting on my shelf.
