Featured antique? embroidery help ID please

Hello, Really hoping some wonderful person can shed some light on this mystery embroidery I recently bought. Type? it is incredible in detail and looks faded which I would think it is old possibly.

 

@Northern Lights Lodge?? I enhanced & enlarged.....as those in the know like to see things UP CLOSE!!!! And it looks LOVELY!!

It looks very similar to the "stump work lace" thread pinned at the top of this forum..

I'm confused why it is called lace though. I'm not an expert on this so I hope others will reply soon.

 

Could be from a firescreen.

 

What a fascinating piece!!!

It looks like a hybrid of some sort of embroidery and beadwork. By any chance are the leaves and white flowers porkypine quills??

If so; I'd suggest that the piece "might" be Native and done circa 1900-1920.

The shape of your embroidery suggests it was made as a chair seat. Here is one from the Denver Art Museum:

I can attest that the hair from the back of his neck is very long.

 

Honestly, the workmanship is incredible in those examples!

Thanks so much, that is definitely the same type shape and similar design. I can't imagine sitting on something so beautiful! very glad it has been preserved in it's frame. I think it needs to go into a collection. I bought this in a New Zealand second-hand shop as I appreciated the incredible skill in the stitch work.

 

One wonders how a moose hair embroidery ended up in a New Zealand second hand shop!??
