Featured Have a Pair of Gorgeous Tall Glass Mantle Vases to ID, Opal Hand Painted

I found these 2 vases yesterday and I love the decoration. The auctioneer called them Bristol glass, but I don't know much about Bristol and have always been confused about it. They are 14" tall and 5" diameter at the base. They have beautiful hand painting on front and back with gold enamel and gold trim. The opal glass is shiny on the inside, but matte finish on the outside. I looked on eb and several sellers call this Bristol Glass, but thought I'd get your opinions before I fall into step with that. Any ideas of where I might search for more info? TY!

Very nice They look Art Nouveau to me.

 

The decoration is too delicate and symmetrical for Art Nouveau, I think.

I'm going to say Bohemian, ca 1905-1919. The color and form of the glass are typical.

 

Bristol Glass, phtttt. Meaningless term. These are late 19th C, enamelled on what looks like frosted glass. Probably Bohemian. I'd call them Aesthetic transitioning to Art Nouveau. The centre panel is very AN, but the grasses are typically Aesthetic.

I found these at an estate auction on Friday, on a day that was cold and rainy AND the auction was outside in the (very muddy) yard! The people collected wonderful things, and now I'm rewinding the sale in my head and hoping I didn't miss too much due to shivering.
Everybody walked away with something great.

I am awestruck!!!! I could not see any missing decoration on the piece. To think that they are that old and perfect is stunning.

Yes, they look fabulous. The only missing decoration is the horizontal gold bands that go around the piece. You need to look closely, but there are scuffs. But it doesn't detract because the main decoration in the middle is perfect.

 

Yes Ola, they are Bohemian but a lot of folks still search for Bristol Glass so you might want to use that term, too.

A little late. The kind of glass is very often described as bristol glass. You can also call it opaline glass, with a satin finish. The satin finish was done with some kind of acid. That's why the inside and bottom are smooth. They are bohemian. Could be late 19th century/early 20th.
