Hello! I am puzzled by my grandparents' old lamp (affectionately know as the "frog lamp") and hope someone here can help me find info.

It is a metal (bronze?) base, with palm/palmetto frond design. The shade (lifts off) is metal filigree (also palm frond design) over green glass. There are frogs as "feet" to the base. Not even 100% sure the base is metal; it seems light-ish. And the patina almost looks painted...? The shade is VERY heavy. However the designs match.

I am very sure that the glass is not original; all the other ones I have seen online look very different (slag glass?). This is smooth on the inside and a pebbled surface on the outside. Unfortunately the glass has some cracks along the edges.

My online research has turned up no other bases like it, and no other palm-design metal overlay shades. Anyone have idea as to age, history, maker/manufacturer, any other info? Grandparents would have acquired it 1950s-early 60s. They were avid estate-sale attendees. Now let's see if I managed to get the photos the right size--it's my first post. :) Frog Lamp Full.jpg Frog Lamp Full.jpg Frog Lamp Full.jpg Frog lamp base.jpg Frog lamp base.jpg Frog Lamp From Top.jpg Frog lamp corner.jpg Frog lamp frog.jpg Frog Lamp Bottom.jpg

Do you think the frog "feet" were applied after the fact? - looks like they cut the base out in 2 of the places to accommodate them - the other was set in an original notch out

Or the base plate was added?

Yes, maybe...it looks a little clumsy. I think they are soldered on...? But why would there be a pressing need to add frogs? LOL

I don't know - too much moonshine, 3 metal frogs, and a soldering gun laying around at night??????? :singing:

I just found the lamp shade on a different base than your lamp at an Antique doorknob website.

The caption under the lamp says The Fern Table Lamp 1910 Miller Lamp Company.

Looking at the link Roaring20s posted above, I'm thinking your shade and lamp base are a marriage maybe.

Oh wow, thanks LauraGarnet and Roaring 20s and all! I hunted and hunted and never found that! I always thought the lamp looked awkward/out of proportion, like the base should be taller. That makes sense. (Still love the lamp! My grandmother collected frogs.)

This has the earmarks of being Bradley and Hubbard. Think the shade is original to the lamp. On board with a circa 1920 date.
