Can anybody read the leaves... ...not literally; but the deco on the outside of the cup

Picked up three of these this morning. The porcelain is so thin and translucent, and the enamelling so clear.

Is there a story being told by the five characters? Does it relate to an area of Japan? When was it produced? Type of decoration?

Don't hide anything. Tell all.























I've run out of photograph space. Thank heavens you say. So I'll describe the Marque:

Red; Double circle in which is 'IMPORTE * DUJAPON'; and in the centre, two equal length lines at 93 deg to each other and a '4.'

Add a picture in a reply to your post. It looks like Satsuma immortals. You can look that up pretty easily.

 

They are the Gods of Fortune, a very common motif in their decorative arts. I don't know the back story. The technique is called moriage, like piping frosting on a cake. Can't help with the mark. Suzuki Co.
Japanese distribution company. Mark can occur on any wares they were reselling and trading in. @janetpjohn @Darkwing Manor

No lithophanes; but the Marque came through clearly and in the full red colour
