Morning and Happy 4th of July to the USA folks! I inherited this ring and would like to know if anyone has any information on the ring or its symbol. It looks as though there was once a hallmark inside, but it’s worn off. Any info would be appreciated! 0CFEC33A-5E22-4AE9-88BF-9EA0F23E6485.jpeg

The "symbol" looks like an imperfectly shaped Gothic letter B (or possibly an R.)

I regularly see similar ones in the UK, as @Bakersgma says it is a letter. I'm guessing they were generally used as signet rings. The ones I have seen have been gold with onyx. I can't remember seeing one with a date letter on the shank, but I think they pretty much all dated to the first half of the 20th century, probably 1920-40 ish.

They get called signet rings, but a true signet ring is generally an intaglio engraved in reverse so that the impression it makes is a cameo in the correct orientation. I tried rotating & flipping the photo of this one & still couldn't make it look like something sensible. Should add I'm terrible at reading gothisized letters.

Could be Fraktur too which opens up other possibilities. (Many German-born Americans when that ring would have been created/worn.)

I wonder if it might be a Victorian memento mori or mourning ring.

You should take it to a jeweler to be tested for gold.
