GOLD PLATED DUAL CIRCLE BROOCH/CLIP EARRINGS, ELIZABETH II DG COINS ON BACK

Need help please, trying to identify a clip earring/brooch set I recently found in a second-hand shop. Heavy weight, I believe the coins set on the backside are real with a gold plated overlay. Front of set are dual circles with black enamel and faux pearls. In very good/excellent condition. Coins are marked Elizabeth II D G and what appears to be the date, but I cannot make it out. I thought it might be 1992 (?). No other makers marking on the set.

Any possible information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

 

1992 would be about right for the set. But I very much doubt those are real coins. Absolutely no marks at all? Looks inspired by a cross of CHANEL double ccs and Elizabeth Locke's work.

They might be repurposed real coins from somewhere. I found some earrings made of Philippino coins made for use while they were still under the US government, but made for 1947. The coins were worthless as coins, so they got sold as scrap metal and made into jewelry. Not the first or last time that was done either. These might have been something left over from a similar situation.

 

Those look like the stuff made by Cabochon in the 80s and 90s. It's nice stuff.

 

Thank you, evelyb30. They have some fair weight to them, right where the coin is, which made me question if they were real coins or not. I sell alot on Poshmark and eBay (vintage Dior, Givenchy, JOMAZ, Schreiner, Weiss, and countless others etc.) I typically know my stuff as most are marked. When I'm stumped, I try to research thoroughly before putting anything online (Juliana D&E for example), I also have costume jewelry books I try to refer to as well...
