Featured Is this abstract wood Carving Balinese?

    It was the first thing that came to mind.
    He is over 14" tall and carved out of this beautiful light wood.

    Facing left he looks Balinese art deco to me. Facing right well umm... the leg could have been done better.:bag:

    The leg does look a bit rude! Looks Balinese or possibly Filipino to me but I am quite new at this.. Here is a vaguely similar carving apparently 1940's Balinese though

    Balinese art is not tribal, btw, there are no tribes on Bali.:)
    Most Balinese are of mixed Sundanese and non-Sundanese origin, the result of many migrations in the region, both voluntary and involuntary. Even the indigenous Bali Aga people are not considered tribal, just indigenous.
    Balinese carvings like yours are made by people who have a cultural link with the Medieval East Javanese Majapahit empire, which ruled a large part of Southeast Asia and even coastal western New Guinea.
