Is this really just a €10 Chevet (Table du Noir) or something a bit better?

Any help in determining what I have bought - period of manufacture, type of wood, what marble it is?

The only thing I am pretty certain of is that it is French. The cupboard is lined with white marble on all surfaces other than the top.

Only damage I can see is that the veneer on the inside of the door needs regluing at the top. Should I dampen it before gluing and clamping, although I don't think it would split even if I didn't.?

What should I use to clean and then polish the wood to turn it into a €300 chevet?

    Thank you:

'Louis XVI' style. My eyes on bad on this monitor but the better ones were walnut. Sienna marble top. These still sell at auction where I am from.

Always learning around here. First encounter with the word chevet & first time for table du noir. Is it, by any chance, table du nuit?

I have seen the terms interchangeable but I am not French. It appears to have a lined cupboard for the chamber pot. I would call it a chevet but I am sure there are some folks more versed in French furniture then I am.

Whew that sure resembles one I have. I bought mine at a local auction a few years back for under $50. If it's worth over $300 somewhere I'd be interested in knowing:)

It is. And in Britain it is a 'Pot cupboard'.
It certainly does. What wood is yours made from? I think mine is oak. I wasn't actually suggesting it was worth over €300; but I certainly think €10 was a good buying price.
