Just for interest, really. A nice silver 3d bracelet, British coins, obvs. But Chinese clasp, so I'd think assmbled in Hong Kong.

The gal selling it had been gifted it by her late father. I could not have sold such a thing. But it won't leave my Hoard.

    1919 and backwards are 92.5 Sterling, anything 1920 to 1946 are 50%

My hunch would be the clasp is a replacement.

It’s a lovely bracelet OBB, looks higher quality than the ones I’ve seen. The clasp does look slightly incongruous. I wonder when those Chinese clasps first appeared on the market? Is the rest of the bracelet silver too?

I've no clue how it got Best Answer, that's weird.

I'd surmise that given we "owned" HK, either findings got imported, or coins were made into jewellery out there. I think those clasps go back to early 20th of Chinese/HK origin.

I've never seen them on anything not made on the Mainland. That said, it could have come from Shanghai or similar.

HK did import findings, there was a fair bit of cross border trade.

Since this thread is “just for interest“, I hope you don’t mind if I show off my farthing bracelet with coins from the 1920s through the 1950s.… :)
I found it at a local thrift. I believe the chain link bracelet is just a generic metal, not silver, though I haven’t tested it.

Show away! That's a nice one. I'd think not silver, but it's charming.
