Curious if anyone could give me any information about this trunk. It was just passed down to me and it is thought to have come over from Ireland with my family (late 1800’s/early 1900’s). I plan on passing it down as well so just looking for information about where it might have come from. Thanks!

The stickers match up with your time period, ca. 1890s - 1910s. I do not know trunk manufacturers in Ireland; however, I'd say that without a sticker or stamp of some kind it will be very difficult to say who made it. Not that it matters a lot....nice family heirloom!!

Thanks! Just from some of my google searches I’ve seen trunks like this called Steamer trunks and some were called Carriage Top trunks. What would the correct name for this be?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

In that they were round topped, it kind of guaranteed they'd be 'on top' of the pile when in stowage!! So that was a good thing! Nice trunk....do you plan on restoring it at all?? That could be a fun project, done carefully and respectfully!!

I'd call it either carriage top or dome top.

It appears the illustration on the inside of the lid is based on the painting by Holmes, entitled "Can't you talk?".
The original was done in 1875.

Flopped. "His painting “Can’t you talk?”, showing a small child on the floor with a collie dog, was widely pirated for popular chromolithographs and engravings, as the copyright laws were so weak in 19th-century Britain and America."

I’m sure I’ll have it restored to some degree. At least to a point that it can be displayed in my house and enjoyed for many more years to come!

Found these pieces wedged under the center divider on the top tray. Broken Hair pin maybe?

I always thought the same thing myself! I have 2 tin-covered dome tops and 1 flat top. Recently, I read that dome tops were made simply for a bit more room which would make the trunk heavier. If it's heavier it would be placed on the bottom of the pile. How? By placing them on their sides. Talk about thinking outside the box! It just never occurred to me:happy:
