Have never found a mark on this sterling starburst pin

Any thoughts appreciated - I love this thing - I picked it up a while ago just because of the texture and design.

It tests positive for sterling, which surprised me, I thought it was treated stainless or rhodium. It is about 3-1/8 wide. It's not old (judging by the clasp) and it's a combination of stacking elements, held by a sort of bolt in the back.

I've pored over it a number of times and never found any mark. Why would someone cast these pieces to make what *looks like* a studio piece and not sign it? (It seems like if made by hand, it would be cast in one piece)

    I don't get it

And therefore, have no way of pricing it! Haven't found one like it.

It may have been a student's class project needing multiple steps, wax carving, textures, mold making, casting, etc. There are evil sadistic instructors who make things very difficult.

I can’t tell if this is just some irregularity. Also did you check around the edge of center circle?
