Why can't I find this silver mark?

Have searched all the places I know. Maybe I'm blind from looking at too many!
Anyway, silver plate pitcher with ice guard, maybe 50s, 60s. 8" high at the side.
Bottom marked with an S then maybe a V in a house followed by a P. It clearly says silver plate. Any help is appreciated. Patd

 

You're not alone, pat, but I see that as an M in a shield. Neither an M nor a V yielded anything.

 

Bakers, I think you are right. On closer inspection, it looks like an M in a shield. Will go look some more.

I saw something sort of possible while looking again for a match to your pitcher's mark yesterday. Waited overnight for the idea to simmer when nothing else showed up.

Here's my thinking - one of Meriden Britannia Co's marks shown in Rainwater, uses a group of letters outlined in exactly the shape as your M. Rainwater shows 2 lines of these shields - top line M, B and C, lower line E and P. Now, there was also a related company Meriden Silver Plate (both companies being part of the International Silver conglomerate) but the marks she shows for MSP are different. International had a tendency to keep using earlier tradenames as it suited them, so *maybe* they had an updated/modernized MSP mark created for use post WW2 (the latest of the ones shown on 925-1000 was last used in 1938) but just didn't use it much, meaning it has not been found often enough to show up in our online resources.

This is admittedly only a "possibility." I've run out of other ideas and sources.

Bakers, after doing more research, you may be on to something. It seems Meriden was not as 'tight' in their mark uses.

I have searched the web for that base and so far have found similar (Rogers) but not an exact match.
