This little porcelain guy (22 cm/ 8.5 inches) with no mark was part of a small box of odd pieces I bought (because I wanted the mid-century butter bowl with the cow finial but had to take everything) and he was solid shiny black except for the base. He was also covered in what felt like years of sticky baked-on grease. I decided to at least scrub the grease off and was quite firm with the brush and the black (paint?) came off with the grease and this is what he looks like now. I know absolutely nothing about figurines, have done a cursory search, but this could be someone’s craft project for all I know. He weighs approx. 450g. Any ideas?

I am just guessing here, but it looks like it was a Made In Japan figurine.
Sometimes they had stickers that fell off over time.

Not my thing at all though I really like some Occupied pieces. I'll try to get the rest of the black off this piece and then send it back from whence it came and someone will want it. At least it's clean now. Thanks Pearl.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I basically know nothing about figurines, but he's kind cute and forlorn looking!!! Hope the rest of the black comes off for you!!
