To pay for the ring.:) But wouldn't you rather have a Viking/Anglo Saxon/Medieval/? gold(?) snake ring than two dirty pennies.
The part at the bottom looks like a snake head to me:

    Sure, Bou, sure....:D

It's a total mystery! I wouldn't have believed this if it hadn't happened to me myself...thank goodness Mr. Bou was there too ( well he actually found it)...if he and I were a leetle more romantic and it was 20 years ago, I'd have half hoped it was a weird sort of proposal ( EVERY girl dreams of the day her potential hub gives her a broken in half *ring* caked in crap that the'd got from the bottom of a bin, gently shrouded by kitty litter and well, more crap ) don't they?

Oo and yes I so would prefer this mystery to even two pennies :D

The broken bit, maybe you're right and it's not broken and was a snake, because the corresponding side is much thicker than the *broken* one?

Yes, it is. And the thicker end looks like a snake head. The thin end could be the tail.
Mind you, the entire ring is a bit irregular, which you see on some Viking etc rings as well.

It has a flat bit, pretty sure it's intentional and the **break** is at the side of that, just seems weird but now I can see a snakey bit potentially x x

Thank you for that clarification. It did seem a little extreme. :)

Hmmm...you think that's bad. I am sure I have done worse...waded through a muddy brook ( which wasn't that muddy til I started stirring it up) to get to the middle because I saw 5p in in...that was fun. I also dragged a lorry alternator about three miles home because I wanted to weigh it in . I got almost £4 for that happy episode xx

Maybe it's Mr. Bou's way of telling you the romance is over & he's gaslighting you. Have we ruled out magpies yet?

I did ask if he was gaslighting me and he said naaa so I'll take it as he's innocent...we do have magpies, I mini panic attack if I see just one alone . Don't have many, just two or four now n again

Does anyone think ( I could be and probably am wrong) that this one has similarites?

    ...or this one?[IMG]
Mine has a sort of ridge, but not as pronounced as this one ,and has rough ends like mine

(I could very well be barking up the wrong tree and if so,would like to be steered on a better path if possible X)
Edit: the ends on mine are much rougher so probably not
Second edit: Now I can see hardly any resemblance at all, now I've looked properly ,mine is flat in one place

Yours was made in a less refined way.
But a ring is such a generic shape, if you search for pictures online, you could end up with it bearing a resemblance to an obscure culture on the other side of the world. Somewhere it couldn't possibly have come from.
I still think snake ring, btw.
Best to show it to an archaeologist, I think. Is there a museum near you?

Thanks AJ, got a bit carried away  I think it was because these are opened ended like mine, and the second one has a ridge too also like mine.
Our Museum has been closed and have no car atm but I am sure there are some somewhere close xx
