Real P.J.Mene?

Can anybody tell me if this bronze sculpture is an original P.J.Mene's work?
It was found among recycling metal and has some damage on it.
I'm not an antique collector but this piece looks interesting.

The J looks more like a T to me and the 4's in 1844 are backwards?

Is that a hole in the poor goat's back?

 

Incorrect spelling would worry me.
"P.T.ME.NE"
So I'm shooting for a fake.

It seems there are many fakes around and I’m not convinced the signature is correct, as Bakersgma said the J looks like a T, the dots are very oddly positioned too.

Yes, there are some scratches on surface of the sculpture. Someone tried to find out what metal is it made of.
I noticed too that the signature is not correct but I just wonder if someone decided to make a fake from the work of a famous artist why not make the signature as an original too. I think it is the easiest part of the work. The ewe herself looks very similar to those "originals" I saw on the net. There is some difference in the ears and....where is the lamb? There were pictures of ewe with a lamb on web.
The weight of this sculpture is 3 kg.
