Hi, all! I have a couple of unmarked pottery items that I need help identifying if possible. First is this pottery cat with sponge decoration. I can't tell if this is new, old, and have no idea on who the maker might be. There are no marks. It's about 7 1/2" tall.

Next is a pottery vase. It is unmarked and has a glaze that looks to me to be similar to Fulper. The bottom doesn't appear right to me for that company, however. It is 8" tall.

I appreciate any help or speculations that might lead me to answers!

    Thank you.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Welcome back! (You mentioned in another thread that it had been a while since you logged in here.)

I usually know very little about pottery, but something about the cat seems very familiar so thought I would comment.

    Also, I love the vase!

Very familiar - and I remember that the origin turned out (for me) to be very surprising. Something about that face.

Good morning! Yes, I thought the kitty looked sort of familiar, too. Shearwater came to my mind, but I just don't know.

Thanks for looking and please post again if anything comes to mind!

I’m seeing some with the sponge texture from Staffordshire, but I’m just going by looks, so wait for other replies. 1AFBE31B-5177-406D-8CB5-40E85B9EADF2.jpeg

I'm guessing from the rest of the body on the one in question here, that it is not a match, though.

Your cat is slipcast, which is a different technique than either Staffordshire or the Persian Qajar pottery cats. I suspect it is more modern.

    Hi,
I was not getting the Persian vibe from the OP cat. It reminds be of my Grams cat that was rescued from the debris of the Johnstown Flood. I was always thinking German.

Thanks all! Yes, Staffordshire did occur to me. However, the bottoms are usually closed with a vent hole for Staffordshire, right? The bottom of mine is similar to Shearwater. However, the decoration...more Staffordshire. I'm stumped! Keep posting you thoughts, though. I will use the leads to continue to cast my net! :)

    Appreciate your help!

One more bump looking for fresh eyes. Then I'll stop bugging you guys about these. :)
