Must be the biggest mortar I ever handled, 31 cm high en 35.5 cm Ø.
Iron cast, probably 17 th century and over the 30 kg weight.
No marks, and a very simple decoration on the handles.

Was this monster at a yard sale? :jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:

My BFF is a pharmacist & has a small collection of mortar & pestles, but I assure you she has nothing like this one. I will have to remember to show her this when she comes over tomorrow.

Not at a yard sale, it was offered at my local auction house during the weekly sales...

When you say "Mortar" I'm looking for the touch hole!

I would think the rough casting is not old. More the quality of a 1970s decorator piece.

I have never seen a 1970s casting...but I certainly will check this suggestion.

I have these same salt and peppers. I always thought they were from the 70's or 80's. That's just a guess though. I used to buy salt and peppers all the time because they were usually $1 or $2 for a pair. One day I will sell the whole collection at once I hope. I've never added them up but I have several boxes of vintage salt and peppers.

This was one of last weekends finds. PY ceramic seahorses. They come in a set with a baby and bubbles as shown here in the box (not mine).

However, mom and pop are already up to $51 overnight. I love vintage kitsch.

I love the packages on those hat pins. What one does with them I haven't a clue, other than stick them in political figure voodoo dolls. (from the country of one's choice)

Found this on my way home from work today, something I haven’t seen before. A large Talavera Puebla pottery Coca Cola bottle, about a litre capacity.

I like the suffragette idea. My thought - given it's Nelson's column and all - was simply a WW1 link.
