Featured Wood carved netsuke help with age?

I was so happy with my jade find i almost forgot about this little guy.
He is 2" tall and made of some type of wood i am not sure about.
Most likely a newer piece?

My netsuke is Chinese. Immortal figure?

 

He is cute. Does he have a Chinese ruyi scepter in his right hand? Could we see him from the right?

He is probably meant to represent a Chinese Sage or someone similar. Could be Chinese made, as you thought. My guess is late 20th century.

 

Netsuke are Japanese, not Chinese. If this is Chinese, it is simply a small carving, not a real netsuke. Replicas and fake netsuke are carved in many countries now, but aren't authentic unless they are Japanese.

 

Agree on a small carving instead of a netsuke, I can't imagine a proper size cord passing through those tiny holes. Decorative, nice wood, a cute little guy to cheer up gloomy days, that's about it.
