Well, it's probably glass, not china or porcelain, it was begun as a gather of clear glass, then rolled in yellow/orange frit (little bits of glass) then a thread of a dark color was wrapped around it, then the surface was pulled, making the loops, then it was marvered, (rolled on a hard surface) to flatten out the threads. There's no evidence of where or when this was done.

Edit: I guess I type too slowly.

First of all, welcome to our forum!!!:happy::happy:

Second of all, please do not be embarrassed about buying this vase. There are some folks here on this forum that have been doing this for a long time & have done the same thing.

We love to look at stuff so please do not hesitate to post other stuff you are not sure about. Just a hint with this category though, try to remember to put what type of material it is in the title. Some of us are much better at glass than we are at say pottery. If we do not have a lot of time we may skip over threads we might be able to help out because it does not have what type of material we are dealing with in the title. :):)

Ahem! Just because something is mass produced, sold all over the place, and comes from a company known for such, does not make it valueless! It's ubiquity may not mean major $, but its artistry can put it on the cover of Architecture magazine!

I could design an entire room with that as starting point, and so could many here, I'm sure! :)

I agree with what others said. The look is nice and someday it may be worth much more.

FYI- the Mugs that read Big Hug Mug were selling like hotcakes and for a pretty penny not too long ago because they were featured on a tv show.
I think they were sold or made by FTD originally.
Sold prices were near $100 if I remember right.
Now that trend is done, but a lot of folks made a lot off those mugs when they were hot. So you never know.

Doulton was mass market. Clarice Cliff and Whitefriars and a whole lot more were mass market. Even Moorcroft.
