Now that I think about it, I probably have a piece or 2 that should not be here, the Bird chest comes immediately to mind. There are only 20 known to exist, well documented & studied with 12-15 of them in museums already.
If there was a fire, earthquake, hurricane, etc, I'd NEVER be able to get it out in time.....
Still, I have no plans on giving it up & hoping to score something WONDERFUL & museum quality at this Dupont sale!

Good furniture can go from winter house to summer house. Some must not go gue to humidity. But the name made it all the way to Mssrs DuPont and as Sherlock said “ The games afoot” from what I have heard the Dominy collection they or he amassed is vast and priceless. Plus, again the moved workshop from East Hampton is at the museum. What memories I have of our family collection. I bet the crayon we used on the undersides of tables and chairs is still there.

Might be fun to ask someone to look. Might solve a mystery for them of what an inscription means.:cool:

Just went through the online catalog. Don’t know if I am grateful for the education or should start plotting my revenge. I’m going to have to go through the basement so [expletive deleted] carefully. Every box, bin, and bag. All of the random bits of hardware. All the tools. Examine every box, bench, and basket. Whimper

I love hearing about many generational families. I think mine is up to 18 in the vicinity of the Dominy family. Documented to 1638 from England.

The document of Washington’s is very interesting. Can’t imagine what that will go for.

My earliest documented ancestor was Dutch and came over in 1635 to be the beer brewer and barrel maker in what is now Albany, New York in contract with the patroon.

Mine arrived in Salem, Mass. They were there for 5 years and settled in Amagansett. The family was a father, mother, and 2 boys. It has been noted the mother learned to speak the tongue of the Montaukett Indian. They shared domestic knowledge.

If I found the right guy, I descend from a long line of undistinguished New Jersey immigrants going back to the 1690s. If not, it's a long line of undistinguished New Jersey immigrants from the 19th century up to 1910 when Grandpa got here from Poland. (LOL)

    Winter Show Postponed

The Winter Show in New York City has been postponed due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in New York City and transmissibility of the Omicron variant.
The Board of Managers of East Side House Settlement—the owner and beneficiary of The Winter Show—made the decision on December 23 to postpone the show originally scheduled for January 20-30, 2022.
