It is a nice one, from West Java. My guess is 1950s. Looks like it was once part of a set, so not a souvenir.
It is a divinity, but it is difficult to say which one. Could be Siwa (Shiwa), could be Suryo (Surya), the Sun God.

Thank you AJ. Do you think the buttons are original or something added. Just wondered about them.

I think one is original, and the other added when the original one fell of. The audience wouldn't have noticed, they look similar from a distance.;)

    It is Dewa Indra.
I was getting him ready for more pics and just noticed this.

Thanks for letting us know. I was wondering about his face, which doesn't have the fine features most divinities have. So Indra makes sense, he is slightly more rough than the others, after all he is the God of war and thunderstorms.

Thank you again, you're a wealth of knowledge. I was wondering how to measure him. Standing upright is 26" but laying down the neck extends making it 28"?

    Hi Mikey,

The wayang golek puppet is called Wisnu. It's a Purwa-puppet ... normal open eyes.
Can't be Indra because Indra has bulging eyes, a black moustache and often a black beard. It happens pretty often that the center-stick is changed during the time. Then the name on the stick doesn't match with the puppet anymore. I'm surprised with the clothes .... the sarong doesn't look batik to me and doesn't belong to the god Wisnu. The clothes looklike more from a wayang golek puppet called Petruk. That's one of the clowns in a set of puppets.

The attached Wisnu puppet (346) has the sarong he should wear.
The attached Wisnu puppet (378) is a refined character. (White face - bowed head - and small downcast eyes)

Sounds like not only the stick was switched, but the head too.
So we could have an Indra stick, a Wisnu (Vishnu) head, and a Petruk or similar character's body.
