Foo Lions

I know you showed us these before. I didn't want to say this, but I am sure these are painted plaster. You can see the white under the chipped off paint.

No these are not painted plaster, these are very old soapstone, I am positive, no doubt.

There are several with a similar 'cloth' plinth on the internet. Most are bi-colour though, with the plinth being a different colour stone than the lions.
Yours seem to be from two different sets, with different plinths, but they are male and female.
Tradition has it that the female should be on the left, but that is just an extra bit of info.

I agree, they are soapstone.
Very old means different things to different people, what is your definition of very old?
