I can't work out who the silver maker is. Scandinavian, probably. A46A.jpg A46C.jpg A46D.jpg A46B.jpg

    Anyone?

Unusual to see a silver mount, found a couple from Danish makers that had a band under the typical extended lip, but this one seems even more uncommon. As I'm sure you know, despite most folks wanting to attribute all cluck-cluck decanters to Holmegaard, they're made by other Danish glassmakers as well as Norwegian (originators of the form). Your mark is Hroar Prydz of Oslo, the crown mark is usually associated with the shop until Prydz died in 1937, but suspect it was still used after Hans Myhre then acquired the shop. Maybe Hadeland for the glass?

    You're a star,

I had one with a silver Asprey mount, which was a nice find.

Hadeland is a distinct possibilty, but they got made by SO many!

    mega thanks.

Why is it called a kluk kluk? I expected a chicken. ;)

Supposedly because of the shape it makes that sound when you pour out the liquid.:happy:

I’ve never seen one that shape before. The more pieces of glass I see on here the more I appreciate the art.

What - you've never watched Star Trek and scoped out the bottles, etc.?

Though I like a lot of glassware, definitely not a 'glassie' - knew the design went back centuries, didn't know the 'kuttrolf' term (familiar with 'klukflaske' and 'klukkeflaske' in Danish and Norwegian).

Image search under 'kuttrolf' brings up a wide variety:

Those searches brought up quite a few silver mounted pieces...

They do indeed make a very odd sound.

I'm a mega Trek fan, used to run conventions. I'd totally missed that they used kluks!

On the subject of funny noises and names - I have a couple of Wade gluggle jugs packed away somewhere...

I've only seen the kluk kluks made by Holmegaard. Have never been interested in them because I'm not interested in decanters that are impossible to clean. Many of these decanters end up with bottom residue. But I have to admit a bit more interest in this one because of the silver.
